A SPACE OF INTEGRANDS ARISING IN CONTINUUM MECHANICS

Alexander J. Zaslavski

Abstract

Leizarowitz and Mizel (1989) studied one dimensional infinite horizon variational problems arising in continuum mechanics with integrands f belonging to a space of functions M. In our previous work (Zaslavski, 1996), we considered these variational problems with integrands belonging to the closure of the space M. We showed that a generic integrand in this closure has a turnpike property. In this paper we obtain a description of the closure of the space M.
