COMMON FIXED POINTS FOR COMPATIBLE MAPPINGS OF TYPE (P) IN 2-METRIC SPACES

Abstract

In this paper we establish criteria for the existence of a common fixed point of a pair of mappings in metric spaces and obtain coincidence point theorems and common xed theorems for compatible map pings of type P. The results presented here generalize improve and unify a number of fixed point theorems given by Cho-Imdad-Khan-Khan, Khan- Fisher-Kubiak-Murthy,  Chang-Cho- Sharma, Pathak-Chang-Cho, Rhoades-Singh, Tiwari-Gupta and others.
